Post-Earthquake Structural Evaluation

Evaluating and upgrading the seismic performance of structures after an earthquake is another field of activity for Sazeh Karan-e Bamdad Company. The Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake changed the engineering perspectives on structural safety against earthquakes.

One of the company’s retrofit projects, located in Sarpol-e Zahab after the earthquake, based on the UNDIO code, is presented below.

For a comprehensive examination of the seismic behavior and strength of an existing structure, both elastic and inelastic dynamic analysis can be used. This examination requires defining damage and condemnation thresholds within the framework of design accelerometers and having complete and accurate information about the structure. For a reinforced concrete structure, this information includes the exact location and size of all structural and non-structural elements, the number and location of both longitudinal and transverse reinforcement in all structural elements, the actual quality of materials used for structural and non-structural elements, and the condition of connections between the structure and the building stone.
